Ethnobotany '97, the II International Congress, is the successor to Etnobotanica '92. The first event was sponsored by Spain's Andalucian Government, the Cordova Town Council, the University of Cordova, and organized by de Cordova Botanical Garden in celebration of the first 500 years since the discovery of America by Columbus.

This year, the Autonomous University of Yucatan Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science Biology School is organizing and hosting Etnobotanica '97 in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico from October 12-17. The theme "The ethnobotany as a basis for sustainable management of plant resources" is open to all those individuals engaged in research, education, and promotion of ethnobotany in the Americas, the Caribbean and other parts of the world.
